DIY Friday – Scalp Treatment

If you are like me, the littlest bit of stress or a change in the weather or just about anything can make your skin freak out. When my skin freaks out like that my scalp becomes an itchy dry unattractive mess. Luckily there is an all-natural way to fix it with just four ingredients. You can make it at home easily or you will soon be able to buy it in our shop.



  • ¼ Cup Sweet Almond Oil
  • ¼ Cup Extra Virgin Olive oil
  • 10-20 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  • 10-20 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil


Combine everything in a dropper bottle or a squirt bottle. I use an old hair color applicator bottle. Shake well. Ta-daa you’re done. I told you it would be simple.
Keep in mind that the amount of the essential oil you use is a personal choice. I tend to use a bit more in my own products so you can adjust the amount to your preference.

How To Use:

Shake well before each use. Apply a few drops directly on to you scalp in the troubled areas. Massage the oil into your scalp taking care to make sure that the entire area is covered well. A little bit will go a long way here. Let it sit for about 20 minutes then brush your hair with a boar bristle (or similar) brush. At this point you will want to double check that you didn’t miss any spots, you can add more and brush again. Let the oil sit for about 1-2 hours then shampoo and condition as usual.

A few important things to note:

  • DO NOT use this treatment on open wounds or broken skin
  • If your scalp is particularly bad or you have severe dandruff it is common that after a treatment you scalp may feel hard or scaly. This is your skin healing itself. Both the essential oils are going to help kill any harmful bacteria that may be causing the scalp problem and are going to help re-balance the areas natural chemical makeup and pH. It will get better with every treatment and shampoo.
  • This treatment works best when used once a week. You can extend it to twice a week for the most severe cases.
  • Dandruff and dry skin are different conditions that look similar; this treatment can help with both.

DIY Friday – Coffee Face Scrub

Yay its Friday! Once again I apologize for yesterday’s late post. I really hope you can take a minute to go check it out. We are all super excited about the new fragrances.  That means my baby sister will be here in just one week. I hope at least. I will know for sure later today if she’ll be here Friday the 26th or Saturday the 27th, either way I can’t wait! During her trip she’s requested that I make her some bath and body stuff so in honor of her trip I’d like to share one of the recipes we’ll be using.

We’ll be making Coffee Face Scrub. Whenever you use coffee in a scrub you skin will absorb the caffeine from it. When making coffee scrubs fresh ground coffee is best but you can use pre-ground. We do not recommend using instant coffee or decaf. Instant coffees can stain your skin and with decaf you won’t get the benefit of the skin awakening caffeine.

This scrub combines several ingredients that your skin will love.

DIY Coffee Scrub 1


  • 3 Tbsp. Ground Coffee
  • 1 ½ Tbsp. Granulated White Sugar
  • 1 ½ Tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Honey
  • 2-4 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil


Mix the Coffee and both Sugars together in a small bowl or container. Slowly mix in the honey and combine well. Add the Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 Tbsp. at a time until you get the consistency you want. Some people like their scrubs to be a little dry others like them to have a more paste like consistency. This is entirely personal preference.

How To Use:

After washing your face apply the scrub in small circles, avoiding the eyes. Massage in for 2-3 minutes and rinse off with warm water. You can use a wash cloth for this as well.

If you would like to make larger batches you can. Just change the tablespoon measurement to parts and keep the ratio. You can easily adjust this recipe as well to customize it for yourself. The Olive Oil can be replaced by any skin safe oils such as Coconut, Sweet Almond, or Argan. You can add or remove items and adjust the ratios of the dry ingredients as well.  Additives you could use are a few drops of an essential oil, oatmeal powder, milk powder, lemon juice, etc. The possibilities are endless.
